Branson's Billions for the Earth
Richard Branson's amazing pledge today of 3 billion dollars over the next ten years to develop environmentally sustainable fuel sources delivers a courageous body blow to fossil fuel abuse. Some of this money will fund Virgin Fuels, set up to explore biofuels.
Branson readily admits that some of the new initiatives will be profitable, and some will not be. But he puts this into perspective when he argues that "we must not be the generation responsible for irreversibly damaging the environment.”
Branson made the announcement on day two of the Clinton Global Initiative.

Mahalo President Bush
Mahalo President Bush, for designating 140,000 square miles of the Northwestern Hawaiian islands as a National Monument.
The decision means that 7,000 species of ocean life, a quarter of these unique to Hawaii, will be protected. There also appear to be no significant negative loopholes or other sneaky mechanisms included in the Act.
For a President dogged by ongoing poor decisions and miscalculations, both in-country and international, this news is sweet.
